Over the Labor Day weekend in 2007, I made my first long solo trip to the mountains of northeast Georgia, where I met up with my friend Bruce, who rode up from Jacksonville in heavy rain. After breathing a huge sigh of relief at Bruce's arrival at about 1 a.m., the weekend was full of some of the best roads in the region, EXCEPT for Route 180 between US 129 and US 60. Even though I had just conquered Deal's Gap, I just wasn't ready for that one. And even though Bruce has me beat by a longshot in the riding experience department, it's been primarily in Florida where it's flat and straight. It was high time he got to try his hand at some real twisties!
Take note! Helen, GA is a great little Alpine village, but not on a holiday weekend.
